The Department of Economics was one of the pioneering departments of the college set up in the year 1962. One of the founding members of the college Prof. (Dr.) Biman Kar was the first Head of the Department. In the year 2013, the Department was given the ‘Best Department Award’ by the college authority for the session 2012-13.
